VVVVVV [Quick] Review

VVVVVV is a platformer unlike any other. Instead of jumping, the player has to reverse gravity and do their best to use it to their advantage. The game begins with Captain Viridian and the rest of his crew getting lost in different dimensions. He must travel through many of them to save five crewmates. It won't be easy though - there are traps everywhere.

There are six stages that can be accessed from the huge hub. Seriously, it's way larger than it needs to be. With the completion of a few levels, you'll end up in intermissions stages. In these ones, you have to get yourself AND a crew member to safety. At first it's not too bad, but it can become quite a chore at times.

Along the way, you can pick up objects known as "Trinkets".  There are twenty of them in the game. You can get a trophy for getting them all. There are other trophies you can get as well such as clearing with less deaths... or even without dying at all. There are other bonuses as well, such as the Super-Gravitron, which has Captain Viridian bouncing up and down while dodging the many obstacles that come at him. Unfortunately, I can never last that long.

Other modes include Time Trials. I shouldn't have to explain what those are, right? But if you don't know, you have to complete levels in the game with the best time you possibly can. There's also a mode that allows you to replay intermission stages, because you can't access them from the hub. Then there's flip mode, which literally flips the game making the usual up become down and the usual down up. Lastly, there's no death mode. If you can beat it, you're probably Jesus.

For a game as good as this is, it doesn't give us much content. Average playtime for one's first time through is about two hours. As a Steam game, it's perfectly reasonable as it's price is only five dollars when it's not on sale. However, the game costs eight dollars on the Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo 3DS when it's not sale. The only new stuff the 3DS version has would be it's use of the touch screen and several user-created levels are included.

Having all those levels does not justify the price because you can get the level editor with all of the same user-created levels for FREE. If you feel like this game has inspired you to create something like it, the developers have already generously provided us with the tools. Players can make their own levels and share them.

While the game is short, it definitely leaves us with enough stuff for us to want to come back for more. VVVVVV also has an amazing soundtrack. The 8-bit music is some of the best I have ever heard in any game. Graphically, it looks outdated, but that's because it's one of those "throwback" games. They are perfectly fitting for the kind of game it is, and it all looks good. VVVVVV is one of the best platformers I have ever played. If you have a steam account, you should definitely purchase it. If you want on your Nintendo 3DS, I'd recommend waiting for a sale... or a complete price drop, but that's not as likely. VVVVVV gets a spike out of four.

I've Been Very Productive Today

....Not really. I really have yet to do something productive. The only thing I put together was this gif for some reason.

What Ace Attorney 7 Will Probably Be Like

This is what I believe Ace Attorney 7 will be like. I made a fake interview to go with it.

Capcom has recently confirmed that Ace Attorney 7 has begun production and will once again star Phoenix Wright as the main protagonist. They’ve actually taken the time to consider the criticism for shoehorning Phoenix back in Ace Attorney 5. To make up for it, the writers are working hard on continuing the story arcs of characters Apollo Justice, Athena Cykes, and further push out Phoenix Wright’s and Miles Edgeworth’s.
“Phoenix’s return to the courtroom wasn’t recieved well by old-time fans,” says  Motohide Eshiro, “so we did everything we could to extend the characters’ [but mostly Phoenix’s] story arcs, by turning them into inanimate objects or animals some time in their lives. Y’know, something that actually makes sense to do.”
Not much is known about Ace Attorney 7 at the moment, but we do know that it releases in Japan on April 1st, 2018. Capcom also plans on bringing this title west later that year. So far all we have of the game is this artwork showing Miles Edgeworth as a train.

World's Dawn [Quick] Review

World's Dawn is a Harvest Moon inspired farming game where you work on a farm. In other words, it's a game were you do chores. I don't even like doing these things in real life, so I'm not sure why I enjoy this game.

The game begins with a guy named Pavel leading you and your dog to a town known as Sugar Blossom. Residents of Sugar Blossom mention a guy named Noah Hayseed who really brought life to the place or something like that. I'm too busy not caring to care. Anyways, Noah died a while back and he did a lot, so I've got big shoes to fill, or however the saying goes.

Afterwards, it's time to meet the residents of Sugar Blossom. Once that's out of the way, it's time to begin our chores. Yep, this is exactly what I wanted to do with my life! So what exactly our your chores? As I mentioned earlier, this is a farming game, so... farm stuff. You can buy and crow crops, buy and raise animals, as well as other farm things.

In doing these things, you'll also have to learn how to manage your money, which I'm not good at. For the longest time in the game, I was struggling financially. So badly, that I ended up running out of food for my dog. And to be honest, when I first started I didn't even realize that I was supposed to feed the dog... woops. I guess it just took a while to notice the dog dish as well as the dog food in my inventory.

But back on the topic of money, you'll have to know when to buy stuff and what you should buy, or things won't go so well. Whenever you're low on cash or just saving up, it is very important to take on part-time jobs... if the NPC's will let you. Heck, I'd even recommend doing it if you have money to burn.

Twice every season, the town holds a market. I've actually never bought anything from any of the ones I've been to so far. Other events will occur in the game over time. They can take anywhere between one and five in-game days to happen, because of the game's slow pace.

In fact, that's why I haven't found true love yet. C'mon Anna, what else do I have to do with you!? We're at two hearts now, so that's a good sign... and it's actually the best relationship I have with any of the residents of Sugar Blossom. Speaking of the residents, if you talk to them, they'll say some kind of randomly generated message. Some things they say require you to be in a certain season or event.

In the version of the game that I am playing, there are only three seasons: Spring, Summer, and Autumn. Things will change depending on whatever season it is. This includes what the townspeople might say, the types of plants that grow, the colors of the grass and trees, and the background music.

Because this is a casual game that doesn't really contain action, pretty much all the music is relaxing and sounds good. The game looks good too. Just looking at it makes me feel like I'm playing a game from the mid-90's... but with modern features, like achievements. Now, there isn't really much to complain about; my only problem is having to wait so long for things to happen. I want to get my love life in this game done, but it just moves so slow.

World's Dawn is a great game and a really good way to waste time. If you're a fan of Harvest moon or any slow-paced games like it, then you should give this a try.

Lily's Day Off [Quick] Review

This is definitely one of the stranger games that I have played. This is one of those games that you'd have to call a "Visual Novel" as in you do a bunch of reading and looking at pictures. ...They're way better than books. But this is no ordinary visual novel, as it is one of the darkest games I have ever played!

The story of the game really depends on the options you choose as you get further. Each mini-story doesn't last too long, so coming back to find them all won't take up too much of your time. This is what makes the game unique compared to other games. In other visual novels, selecting options would just change the outcome. In this game, however, your choices not only change the outcome, but the universe your in too.

In all possible scenario's, you find Lily crying in your neighborhood, with no memory of anything that happened to you previously. However, you do recall that Lily is a famous pop star. Then you decide to talk to her. Depending on the way you go, you might be trying to become one of her friends, trying to go out with her, finding out that... she's your sister... or you might be trying to murder her? Yeah, I wasn't kidding when I said this game was strange.

At key moments when you discover these things, or nothing is going on, there's some nice background music. Some of the tracks are relaxing, others are intense, and some are emotional. I wouldn't rate the tracks to high, but and visually it looks fine.
If you don't like what Lily's wearing when you start the game up, or what's being shown in this video you're watching, you can change her outfit from five different options before you begin the game. It's nothing special really, but it's a still a nice extra feature. Speaking of extra features, if you click on Lily at the title screen, you'll see a tech demo for something. ...Dat's it.

Despite how strange it is, the game is one of the most unique visual novels I have played. The game has a total of sixteen endings that range from strange to dark to creepy to kind normal. I'd only recommend this game to hardcore visual novel/anime/dating sim fans or just anybody that wants to play something that they can complete under an hour. Lily's day off gets a "Star out of five".

Dollargame Episodes 3-6: Heartache 101 "Review"

Heartache 101 is a game I happened to find when I was searching for visual novels. It's a dating simulator. I don't play these because I'm desperate or anything. I know I haven't actually had a girlfriend before, but whatever. I'm not lying. Since the game takes place in first person, I'll be mostly talking like I'm actually in the game.

The story begins with me showing up to school late. Not long after that, I encounter my childhood friend, Miki, well if I can call her a childhood "friend", I guess. She comments on my hair and then we exchange insults. Then, both of us head to class and go through more introduction stuff, I'm a sophomore... whatever. This school divides genders for some reason. So most classes only have one gender of students. There are a few exceptions, though.

Apparently, I have a crush on a student in the grade above me. Here name is Shihoko... I'm not sure if I pronounced that right. That's what I get for playing a "Japanese" game, I guess. Anyways, once the first class is over I head out into the hall expecting to see Shihoko, but we bump into Miki instead. She soon realizes what I was doing and tries to make fun of me. She says that I  "can't get a girlfriend" and then I tell her that I don't want a girlfriend. ...That sounds like something I'd actually do in real life.

Once the day is over, I decide to head home, only to encounter Miki and her best friend... uh, Keika...? Why does everything have to be hard to pronounce in these kinds of games? Anyways, the two of them propose a competition: who could get into a relationship in 101 days... me or Miki. I accepted. Then, I get home and ask myself a question that will determine what trait of mine will be the strongest. Looks, personality, soul, athletics, and mind. ...And with that, the first day of the competition begins!

This is where the game play changes. Now we're playing on a board map, similar to Mario Party [I guess], but unlike Mario Party, people wouldn't make fun of you for playing this alone. They'd just give you that whole "you're playing this because you're desperate" speech, unless these people are actually nice to you or something.

The first options the player has are "move" and "wait". "Move" is exactly as it sounds and so is "wait". When you "move" the number of spaces you move is generated by chance. Choosing to "wait" you'll just stand still and the girls on the map, which I'll talk about soon, will move around. As you get further, you'll have some more options on the board map parts of the game. You'll be able to use items that you pick up at "item" spaces as well as use special moves that you obtained from spaces on the map.

When you walk to one of the girls on the map, as in land on the space that they're in, you'll trigger an event, whether story-driven, or just a quick "what do you want to say to her?" thing. If you land on arrow,  you'll be given a couple of options: a certain amount of spaces that you can move back or forward if you want. The amount for forward and back isn't always going to be consistent, though.

Landing on a question mark will trigger a random event. It can be something like an amount of spaces you'll have to move, wiping chalk stains off of yourself to look better, losing money to irresponsible classmates, as well as many other things. Lastly are the bugs. If you land on them, you'll get sick and have to spend the rest of the day out him. I don't why, but whenever these are on the board, I always end up going home sick.

There was so much to cover in this game. So much story. And that's not even all of it. Thankfully, I'm not going to cover it all! Anyways, when you beat the game you can come back and try to get the other several endings and story branches. It's worth coming back just to see what happens if you're actions are a little different.

You can even add your own characters and story to the game. If you're not that creative, you can download custom characters and story to the game. Once you've cleared the game once, you'll unlock "clean mode" which will allow to play through the game using custom characters only... except in the intro. That's the only exception.

I haven't really played around with that yet, but I've had a lot fun with this game so far. In fact, I got kind of addicted to the game at first. I had trouble closing the game and doing other stuff for a bit. The gameplay is good, and doesn't have many notice-able flaws.

The dialogue in this game is perfect. Hardly any noticeable grammatical errors or any kind of typos. The dialogue never had me confused as to what was going on. It all made sense and felt fitting for each character that it was written for.

Visually, the game is great for the most part. The board map looks okay in my opinion, but the locations and NPC's look good. Speaking of NPC's, the only ones that actually show up are the girls. Now, I know the game focuses on the girls, but it really would be nice if I could see the guys too, since I believe in gender equality. I can only see them on the map. It makes sense that I can only see the guy I'm playing as other, but way less with the NPC's. Then there's the soundtrack - It's full of really good fitting music.

Dollargame Episode 2 - deIz "Review"

People play videogames for a reason, whether it's just to have fun or go on adventure you could never go on in real life. ...Or even experience the love that you can never experience in the real world. Today, I'll be telling you about an interesting find and what it has to do with me.

"Days"... or is it "dies"? Or should I just call it D-E-I-Z... D-E-Capital I-Z...? Whatever. The game stars a high school student by the name of Ceil... did I pronounce that right? Y'know what? I'm just gonna pronounce all the names how I feel like. Anyways, the game starts with Ceil watching a film on his cell phone. What's special about the film is he got to decorate one of the props that was used, a ring. He also has a crush on the film's director, Iris. Ceil's friends, Chamoisee and Cerise soon show up and that's where the game begins.

It is quite an interesting game, with multiple endings. Some endings can get kinda dirty, or a little more than kinda dirty - this game is rated "T", right? Yeah... okay then. But I don't really care for those endings.  With the story out of the way, I can now talk about what else the game offers.

At key moments in the game, there some wonderful pieces of art displayed, which are unlocked in the gallery after you've seen them. In the gallery, we're also able to view content that wasn't didn't show up in the main game. Stuff like scrapped art, a cool-looking cut-scene, and a brief "making of" thing.

While the game managed to get the visuals almost perfect, it failed at sound. The entire game has no sound. It's just completely silent. This is why none of the music played in this video comes from this game. That's not the only thing the game fails at. It also fails at its dialogue.  While, I can understand what's going on, the sentence structures are just awful. The game is also full of misspelled words and grammatical errors. But those are the only areas I find the game flawed.

Length isn't much of an issue. This game will definitely take up more of your time than "Lily's Day Off" would. Now that I've told you all that stuff about the game, you're probably wondering what the game has to do with me, as I said earlier in the video since the game wasn't made specifically for or about me. I don't even know the guy who made it. But, this is the very first game I have played that has brought up old memories.

Similar to Ceil, I had a really important childhood friend that I was separated from. But unlike Ceil, I wasn't the one to move; this friend of mine was. I haven't seen her since she moved. And now, it's been about eleven years since then. And that's all that the game has to do with me, but thanks to this game, I have been reminded of important memories that I won't be able to forget now.

Here's the full [video] review.

Dollargame Episode 1 - Top 5 Wii Games

Here is a list of my top "5" wii games in the pilot of my review series. It is not limited to retail games. If you're wondering why the intro is like that, blame Adobe Premiere not me.

A Blog Run By A Lazy Guy

I decided to make a blog here... because I can. Don't expect much, though. I'm a very lazy guy. If you want to know about me, I have a biography page that you can read. I also put up a downloads page, so you can see some of the lame games and gadgets that I have programmed for some reason. Not sure what else to say, so... here's a lyric video I made because I've been watching RWBY lately.

Will Dai Gyakuten Saiban Ever Get Localized? (From Capcom Unity)

*This was posted to Capcom Unity on November 1st, 2015 on my Ace Attorney Localization [News] blog and I decided to post it here just from the sake of having something posted.

It's been quite some time since I've actually posted a blog entry. I've just been kind of busy with School and stuff and haven't had much time to report about things such as the announcement of Ace Attorney 6. However, I do not feel the need to go into detail or the news regarding the sixth installement of the main series because Capcom has already confirmed that it will be localized and this blog is here for the Ace Attorney games that have yet to be localized for the most part.

Anyways, back in September (I know, that was like two months ago) I sent a message to Janet Hsu regarding Dai Gyakuten Saiban all the concern I've seen from fans. Honestly, while I'm more interested in Ace Attorney 6's medium trials, it would be a huge shame and missed opportunity for Capcom if it didn't get localized. Anyways, the message contained details about the concern I noticed on social media such as Twitter and I even mentioned how I was more looking forward to Ace Attorney 6, but despite that would love to see Dai Gyakuten Saiban localized. Several days later, I got a reply.

"I saw on Facebook and Twitter that people were wondering about DGS, and to be honest, I am not privy to Producer level and above discussions, so I'm not entirely sure how the decision was made to localize AA6 over DGS. I personally think that part of the reason is because we can only handle one AA game at a time (there's only one of me, after all ^^; ) so it's still entirely possible that DGS may be localized in the future. That said, my team and I are working hard on the localization of AA6. I hope it'll live up to your expectations." - Janet Hsu

And that pretty much sums up all the news I have on Dai Gyakuten Saiban possibly getting localized at the moment. Capcom's [Ace Attorney] localization team is small, so they can only get one game at a time. Honestly, it makes sense that they want to prioritize the main series. It's probably more important that the main series games get out here than any of the other ones, anyways.

But it is still possible for us to get our hands on Dai Gyakuten Saiban in the west in the future. If nothing is announced at all in 2016 (likely after Ace Attorney 6 comes out), then we can start worrying about a fan translation in 2017. So for now, we just need to be patient, but never forget to remind Capcom that we want this game.
